The Lathrop Spartans got a visit from the defending co-Valley Oak League champion Oakdale Mustangs and it got out of control in a hurry, with Oakdale laying a 49-0 beating on Friday.

Lathrop (0-3 VOL, 2-4 overall) found itself down early and proved incapable of stopping the bleeding, heading into halftime trailing 42-0 on its way to a third-straight loss.

Oakdale got on the board in the first quarter when Marcus Hernandez scored on a touchdown run, the ensuing kickoff was lofted high and short on the Spartans, catching them off guard and giving Oakdale another possession.

The Mustangs (3-0, 4-2) would push another score across and reap the benefits on a roughing-the-kicker penalty on the PAT attempt, allowing Oakdale to kickoff from the 45-yard line. The Mustangs tried an onside kick, which they recovered, and Daniel Linder promptly raced in from 42-yards out for the score.

Oakdale held a 21-0 lead before its defensive unit played a down in the contest.

Lathrop will continue along the VOL schedule with a short trip of I-5 to Weston Ranch to take on the Cougars. Weston Ranch is coming off a close 31-21 loss to East Union, in which the Cougars were down by just four late in the contest.
