The sophomore flashed her speed and tenacity during the varsity flag football and basketball seasons, and she’s brought both to the track this spring.
Cruz-Olenhouse is improving her times weekly, while establishing herself as the pacesetter among the Valley Oak League’s female sprinters.
“Felisa is having an amazing sophomore season. She came in prepared to work and compete. She fights for every second of her races and inspires her teammates to do the same. Every day in practice, she puts forth her fullest effort and trusts the training.
“She stays hungry and is never complacent with her success. She has her sights set on several school records that I have no doubt will fall in her future.”
She took took a step closer to those marks last Friday in the Modesto Junior College High School Invitational. Cruz-Olenhouse ran personal-best times in taking second in the 100- and 200-meter dashes at 12.53 and 25.85 seconds. She also came away with gold after leading the 4x100 relay to a first-place finish in 50.37 seconds. She was joined by Mia Ona, Sofia Montes and Diana Reyes.
The Timberwolves won the meet, holding off second-place Lathrop, 87-5-78.5.
Just one day earlier, Sierra competed in a VOL dual against visiting Patterson. The girls team improved to 3-0 with the 93-39 victory.
Cruz-Olenhouse scratched the 200 but contributed first-place points in the 100 and 4x100 relay.
Sierra will be back in action Thursday against East Union at Daniel Teicheira Memorial Stadium before heading to the West Coast Relays in Clovis on Saturday.
