Consistency was key in Ubick’s quest for the Trans Valley League Most Outstanding Player award.
And he was consistently very good.
Last Monday, April 28, the Ripon Christian sophomore secured his place as the TVL’s top boys golfer with an impressive 1-under-par 71 at Micke Grove Golf Links. Ubick was 3-under going into the final three holes, bogeying holes 16 and 18.
It marked the sixth time in eight league tournaments that he was low medalist, and second time that he finished in the red. Ubick carded a 3-under 53 in the league opener at St. Stanislaus Golf Course.
In the eight league tournaments, Ubick netted 28 birdies, averaging four per round, and an eagle.
“Matthew had an exceptional season in the TVL, consistently topping the leaderboard with remarkable consistency,” RC coach Christian Manes said. “His dedication to golf is evident. He’s always down at the course or playing competitively. He has the ability to rattle off a number of birdies in a round.
“As a sophomore, we’re thrilled to watch Matthew continue to develop as both a golfer and a leader for our team. It’s a privilege to coach him, and we’re proud of his well-earned TVL Most Outstanding Player award.”
Ubick placed third at the Sac-Joaquin Section Division VI Tournament last year with a 70 at Cherry Island Golf Course, then went on to shoot a solid 75 at the SJS Masters Championship.
