BASEBALL: Bauer pitches 1-hitter in Sierra’s VOL win

 Wyatt Bauer and Sierra had their way with visiting Kimball on Monday, as they notched their first Valley Oak League win of the season, 5-1.

The Timberwolves’ left-handed ace pitched a one-hitter, striking out 12 while walking three and hitting one. Derek Aranda plated the lone run for Kimball (0-1 VOL, 2-11 overall) in the sixth inning.

Sierra (1-3, 8-6) gave Bauer all the cushion he needed when it plated two runs in each of the first two innings. Troy Morrow led the assault, going 3 for 3 with a double, three runs, one RBI and two steals. Druw Navarro went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs. Rudy Barney and Angel Valdez each drove in a run.


Ripon Christian 12, Modesto Christian 2 (6)

Modesto Christian (5-11) opened the 53rd Dick Windemuth Spring Classic contest with a two-run burst in the top of the first inning at Modesto High.

It was all Knights (9-6) from there, as they doled out 10 hits, drew seven walks and were hit by five pitches. They also had three batters reach on errors.

Josh Crivello (three runs) and Noah DeBruyn (two runs) were both 2 for 2, while Joshua Buffalow (double, RBI)) and Grant Sonke (double, run, two RBIs) each finished 2 for 3. Kayden Anderson accounted for four of Ripon Christian’s 11 steals.

Jordan Luisi pitched five innings and fired nine strikeouts in the combined two hitter. Dustin Hoekstra closed it out, fanning two of the three batters he faced.

The Knights next face Southern Athletic League rival Waterford this morning at 11:15.


Gregori 6, Ripon 1

The Jaguars (6-8) of Modesto jumped ahead with four runs in the fourth inning and cruised to win the Atwater Tournament opener.

Ripon (9-4) was limited to four hits, with Dawson Downs going 2 for 2 with a double and a run. Isaac Sandoval also drilled a double.

Freshman Brayden McDowell pitched the first three innings for the Indians. Jehren Arriola struck out five and gave up an unearned run on three hits and two walks over three relief innings.
