East Union could not get its bats going Monday in a 2-0 Valley Oak League loss at Central Catholic.
Adrian Garcia anchored a combined three-hit shutout for the Raiders (4-3 VOL, 10-6 overall), striking out eight and walking two over 6 1/3 innings. Joe Salacup got the final two outs for the save.
Garcia also knocked in one of Central Catholic’s two runs. The Raiders scored once in each of the third and fourth innings.
Jackson Fay, Blake Mount and Kirk Simoni accounted for East Union’s lone hits. Starting pitcher Zach Grabowski threw four innings, striking out three against seven walks. Peyton Heath threw the final two innings, striking out two. They also combined for a three-hitter.
The Lancers (4-5, 12-8) host Game 2 of the three-game series on Wednesday.
