BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Dhami’s 24-point outburst propels Ripon into consolation final

Anandjap Dhami anchored the Ripon girls basketball team’s 54-42 win over Fortune Early College on Friday at the Liberty Ranch Tournament.

The junior forward totaled 24 points and nine rebounds, anchoring a lopsided second quarter that broke the game open for the Indians (5-4). They outscored the Sacramento-based Panthers (1-5) 18-2 in the second period, with Dhami accounting for eight points. Ripon led 28-15 at halftime.

Savannah Richardson and Scarlett Ponce added 11 and 10 points, respectively. Fortune was paced by Tenya Bailey’s 16 points and Zaniyah Jenkins’ 13.

Ripon faces Valley Christian (6-1) of Roseville in the consolation final today.

 

VARSITY BOYS

Emerald 52, Ripon 51

The Indians (0-5) dropped a second one-point defeat in as many nights in the West Tournament in Tracy. Emerald (2-3) of Dublin jumped out to an 18-10 lead and held on from there.

Center Tip Paini helped keep Ripon in the game early on with six of his eight points in the first quarter. Junior guard Gino Calderara took it from there, finishing with 22 points to go with five rebounds. AJ Vanderwerff added nine points and seven rebounds.

KJ Daniels led Emerald with 12 points, while Steven Sun scored all 10 of his in the second half.
