Dalben Center was a source of much excitement for East Union this past winter season, as both the boys and girls basketball teams enjoyed great success.

And with that success comes individual accolades.

Zyondupree Beasley is girls basketball MVP in the Valley Oak League, and she’s joined by fellow seniors Ava Barrera Shebra Rezaye on the All-Valley Oak League team.

The Lancers’ boys squad has three all-league first-team selections in seniors Lorenzo Jones and Zydell King and junior Ayande Johnson.

The girls team went 11-1 in league and shared the title — the Lancers’ sixth straight — with Central Catholic, but that came before an historic run to the NorCal Division III semifinals. East Union (28-7 overall) reached a Sac-Joaquin Section final for the first time since 1994, then won notched first-ever win in the CIF State Northern Regional tournament three days later.

The versatile Beasley played a key role, averaging 12.2 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 2.1 steals and 1.4 blocks. She also made the MaxPreps All-SJS Second Team.

She was more of a scorer in league at a 15.1 points-per-game clip, adding 8.1 rebounds, 2.1 steals and 1.7 blocks.

The 5-foot-7 forward had one of her best games in a 62-58 win over fellow co-champ Central Catholic (11-1, 27-3). Not only did she tally 21 points and 12 rebounds, but Beasley served as a solution for the Raiders’ stifling press defense with her reliable floor game.

The 5-9 Barrera was another jack-of-all-trades contributor for EU and was also named to the All-Defensive Team. She averaged 11.3 points, 9.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 2.8 steals and 1.5 blocks in the VOL.

An All-VOL second-team selection, Rezaye also played multiple roles while contributing 9.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.3 steals. Both she and Barrera are four-year varsity players.

Third-place Sierra (7-5, 14-13) has two first-team selections in senior Isabellah Crabb (14.5 points, 8.4 rebounds, 2.8 steals) and sophomore Emalina Latu (11.4 points, 9.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 2.0 steals). Elin Villanueva earned honorable mention, while Tessa Zalunardo was named to the All-Defensive Team.

Representing Manteca (3-9, 11-17) are Jaesha Dunn on the honorable-mention list and Sari Lawson on the All-Defensive Team.

Central Catholic’s Alison Nichols was named Coach of the Year.

East Union’s boys team (9-3, 23-9) ended up one game behind Mountain House (10-2, 23-6) in a hard-fought, four-team race for the championship. The Lancers hit the 20-win barrier for the first time in 22 years, then advanced to their first section semifinal since 1999.

Jones made the All-VOL first team after getting second-team recognition last year. The double-double threat averaged 11.5 points and 11.7 rebounds overall, while grabbing an astounding 175 boards on offense. In league, he averaged 8.2 points and 11.2 rebounds.

King pitched in 12.0 points, 4.0 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 2.5 steals in VOL play as East Union’s primary ball handler and creator. Johnson recorded 9.2 points and 4.5 rebounds in league but was EU’s leading scorer for the season at 13.2 points. He also made 37% of his 200-plus attempts on 3-pointers.

Rico Johnson received honorable mention, while third-year guard Jackson Fay made All-Defense.

Romeo Callendar and Jordan Garcia got honorable mention for Sierra (2-10, 13-15), and A.J. Chapman is on the All-Defensive Team.

Earning honorable mention for Manteca (1-11, 7-21) are Rehan Awan, Austin Barnes and Madden Melendez. Jeremiah Orona made All-Defense.

Mountain House center Jordan Williams received MVP honors, while Kelly Power of Oakdale (7-5, 22-7) is Coach of the Year.
