Manteca High’s tennis team made a quality impression at the California Girls Tennis Classic in Clovis, finishing tournament action with a 1-1 split Saturday, including a 6-4 win over Atascadero.

“This was a wonderful experience for our team,” Manteca head coach Mary Ann Tolbert said. “And I am extremely proud of the composure my team demonstrated in today’s first match; coming from behind and winning three tie breakers.”

Adaezze Nkwocha garnered one of the tie-breaking wins, beating Mallory Miller of Atascadero 7-5, 3-6 and 10-7.  Both doubles teams snatched victories from tie-breakers, Rosa Zou and Jenny Yu won 1-6, 7-5 and 15-13. Kaile Hunt and Liz Diaz won 1-6, 6-1 and 10-6.

Championship play saw the Buffaloes meet up with one of the tournament host teams Buchanan, falling 1-5.

“Playing five matches in two days takes a toll and the girls definitely rose to the occasion,” Tolbert said. “And they did it against some good teams.”
