The Manteca Buffaloes summer league baseball team had no problem handling the Downey Knights, getting a solid effort from pitcher Alex Jorgensen in a 6-1 win over Downey in the Lee Hampson Tournament Friday.
Jorgensen went five innings for the Buffaloes, holding Downey in check and never getting into any trouble in his five innings of work.
“Alex did a great job for us today,” head coach Gene Ballardo said. “He’s really been working hard and we are definitely seeing some good things out of him.”
Jorgensen also helped the Buffaloes’ cause by going 2 for 2 at the plate.
Manteca won its “Pool C” play by going 4-0 and will face the “Pool A” winner Sunday at 10 a.m.
The Buffaloes’ opponent has not yet been decided, but a victory in the contest would usher Manteca into the championship which will be played Monday.
The Buffaloes’ Sunday game will be played at Gregori High.
