Manteca’s Sienna Jones won the girls 5,000-meter Valley Oak League cross country race with Central Catholic on Thursday in 20 minutes, 16 seconds on Wednesday at Woodward Park. Team scores were not kept in any division due to not enough runners participating.
“I was very excited,” Jones said. “I wish I could have cut off a little bit more time but I think it was a pretty good run.
“It’s a little tougher to run here than on a normal cross-country course — it’s harder to keep a pace.”
The Buffaloes’ Addisyn Allen finished fourth (23:51) and teammate Camilla Herrera was fifth (25:54).
In the boys race, the Raiders’ Austin Hannink pulled away in the second half of the race and held on to win in 18:16. Manteca’s Martin Jacobo finished third (18:29) and teammate Fabian Mendoza was fourth (19:52).
“This was a pretty good race,” Jacobo said. “It was a great race, actually. I almost caught back up to the two guys in front of me.
“But what matters is you give it your best and you finish strong.”
The lone Buffaloes runner in the junior varsity two-mile, Dario Rodriguez, ran away from the crowd with a first-place finish in 11 minutes, 58 seconds.
