Contreras, Rebels run past Vikings

Christopher Contreras did plenty with his sparse rushes for the Delta Rebels junior varsity football team against the host Modesto Vikings this past Saturday.

He racked up 206 yards and scored both of his team’s touchdowns on just six carries, and the defense recorded its third shutout of the season in the 12-0 victory. The Rebels improved to 6-2 in the Delta Youth Football League and is 4-2 in South Conference play.

The Sucher brothers led the charge defensively. Michael Sucher intercepted two passes and piled up six tackles, while Dylan had five tackles to go with a fumble recovery. Thomas Cann contributed seven tackles.

The Rebels next take on the Tracy Jr. Bulldogs this Saturday at East Union High. The junior novice game kicks off the day at 10 a.m.



Lathrop Lions jr. peewee

The playoff-bound Lions capped the regular season of the NorCal Youth Football Alliance with a 12-6 loss to the Sacramento 49ers.

Quarterback Walton Whaley accounted for Lathrop’s lone touchdown, a 60-yard run. Alexander Duenas paced the defense with eight tackles and a fumble recovery. Dennis Crum added seven tackles, while Montrel Block, Ruben Benevides and Romeo Shannon chipped in six each.

Soccer

MASL Fury

The under-19 girls team shut out a Stockton squad 4-0 at the Arch Road Soccer Complex.

The Fury had a pair of goals from Jennifer Hoffman. Joanna Martinez and Tyanne Woodyard-Smith each scored once, and Carla Ochoa contributed an assist.

Kareena Escartin had five saves in keeping the sheets clean. Defender Taylor Gray kept the shutout in play by blocking a short-range shot in front of the goal.
