Cougars shut out Stagg for first win

The Weston Ranch Cougars were able to open the season on a good note, using a pair of first-half goals to cruise to a 3-0 shutout victory over Stagg in Tuesday’s season opener.

Weston Ranch’s Yazen Saleh got things going with a goal in the third minute, spotting the Cougars a quick 1-0 lead. They would get back on the board in the 26th minute when William Giron converted on a corner-kick from Esteban Paramo for a 2-0 lead.

“It was nice for them, they’ve been working hard all summer,” Weston Ranch co-head coach Francisco Cisneros said. “And it was nice to see their hard work paying off.

“It was a nice positive result, but we still have a ways to go.”

The Cougars (1-0) would add their final goal in the 65th minute on a goal from Antoeelly Guzman.

Weston Ranch will be back on the pitch Friday to kick off the Buffalo Cup tournaments hosted by Manteca High. The Cougars open tournament action with a matchup against the Patterson Redskins.

 

Lathrop 1, Linden 0

The Spartans took care of business in the season-opener, beating the Linden Lions 1-0 Tuesday.

The Spartans would usea first half goal and solid defensive effort to cruise to the shutout victory.

Lathrop will meet up with Hughson Friday to continue the nonleague schedule.
