The East Union High girls golf team stayed in a three-way tie atop the Valley Oak League standings by beating Sierra Wednesday at the Manteca Park Golf Course.

The Lancers (6-1) outshot the Timberwolves, 242-289, led by Angelique Cardoza and Jenny Ketner.

Both carded 9-over-par 46s on the front nine while sharing medalist honors.

“As a team, our play was pretty consistent,” said East Union coach Dennis Wells.

Kaylee Nuding finished two strokes behind the leaders, firing a 48.

Alyssa Telles (50), Jordan Vincent (52) and Brittney Ugalino (52) rounded out the scoring for the Lancers, who share first place with Oakdale and Sonora.

East Union will take on Sonora today at the familiar greens of Manteca Park, with Wells hoping to see his team shave a few strokes from their previous score. It was Sonora that handed East Union its lone VOL loss of the season, 257-281 at Phoenix Lake Golf Course Sept. 7. The Lancers had their league winning streak of 61 snapped.

Sierra will also play this afternoon, facing Kimball at the Tracy Golf and Country Club.
