Ripon’s girls basketball team had no answer for 6-foot-2 Natalie Powell in a 38-32 loss to visiting Oakdale on Wednesday.
The junior center did much of the scoring for the Mustangs (3-0), pouring in 28 points. She accounted for all of their 11 points in the fourth quarter, which helped keep Ripon (1-1) at bay.
A second-quarter dry spell ultimately did the Indians in. They were shut out in the period, leading to a 19-7 halftime deficit. Ripon also shot 0-for-6 on free throws in the first half.
Anandjap Dhami kept the Indians in it with her 17 points. Savannah Richardson added 10 points. Only three Ripon players wound up scoring, with Itxel Reynoso netting the rest.
The two teams will meet again in the Golden Valley Tournament next Thursday, Dec. 4. Ripon will first face Pitman in Turlock on Monday.
