Led by Lauren Peters’ double-double, the Ripon girls basketball team tipped off its 2025-26 schedule on Tuesday with a 54-43 win over visiting Downey.
The 6-foot-1 senior center finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds. She keyed a fourth-quarter barrage with 10 points. The Indians went into the final quarter trailing by three points but outscored the Knights 22-8 down the stretch.
Scarlet Ponce contributed 12 points and six steals, while Savannah Richardson had 10 points, four steals and four assists. Ixtel Reynoso provided an early spark, scoring six of her eight points in the first quarter.
Danica Flores paced Downey (1-1) with 13 points.
Ripon next hosts Oakdale tonight.
Lathrop 47, Kimball 38
Jaleiyah Ray buried two late 3-pointers to help the Spartans (2-0) keep the visiting Jaguars (1-1) at bay. Ray finished with a team-high 11 points to go with nine rebounds and nine assists.
With freshman phenom Breanna Wiseman (seven points, four rebounds, two blocks, two steals) in foul trouble, Abby Renteria did well to fill the void with four points and defensive stops in the fourth quarter.
Fourth-year senior forward Shakara Porter poured in 10 points, six rebounds and two steals. Jaylah Seabron contributed nine points and three steals. Aisha Wiseman (four points, five steals) and Ray were tasked with defending Kimball standout sharpshooter Emma Coronado, who scored fired 39 points in the Jags’ season-opening win over Stagg.
Atwater 68, East Union 57
East Union (1-1) hung tough with the reigning Sac-Joaquin Section Division II champion Falcons, who raced away with a 22-8 fourth quarter.
Sophomore Lucija Dayeh made four 3-pointers and 4 of 4 free throws to lead the Lancers with 20 points. Ava Barrera and Zyon Dupree Beasley added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Atwater (1-0) had nine different scoring contributors led by Riley Leonardo’s 14 points.
River Islands 36, Big Valley Christian 14
The Riptide started its season with a lopsided win in Modesto, getting 10 points from Brianna Lee and nine from Veronica Erilim.

The Spartans dominated from the outset and broke it open with an 11-1 third quarter.
