Lathrop completed its best-ever girls basketball regular season on Thursday, when it took care of Beyer on the road, 67-22.
The Spartans not only ran the table in the Western Athletic Conference for their fourth title, but they also go into the playoffs sporting a 28-0 overall record.
“An undefeated season was not our goal when we started this year off,” Lathrop coach Dwayne Davis said. “We played one game at a time, then we focused on the next one. They made history tonight for Lathrop girls basketball, themselves and each other. We feel blessed for them.”
Lathrop blitzed Beyer (5-9, 8-16) at the outset for a 20-5 lead at the end of the first quarter. The gap widened to 34-10 by halftime, and the Patriots were limited to single-digit scoring in every period.
The Spartans were led by their talented frontcourt tandem of Shakara Porter and Breanna Wiseman. Porter, a four-year varsity player, nearly recorded a triple-double with 17 points, 10 rebounds, seven steals and three assists. Freshman Wiseman also had 17 points to go with 13 rebounds.
Jaleiyah Ray tallied 10 points and 10 rebounds. Zakia Booker added six points, four steals and two blocks. Audrina Fisher contributed five points.
