GIRLS SOCCER: Ripon High, Ripon Christian dominate in league shutouts

Ariana Scholten blasted three goals, and the Ripon girls soccer team crushed visiting Escalon 7-0 to begin its defense of the Trans-Valley League title Tuesday.
The Indians (1-0 TVL, 9-2-1 overall) built a 6-0 halftime lead and enjoyed a 24-2 overall shot advantage.
Devaney Dougherty (goal, two assists), Ariana Daniels (goal, assist), Hailey Peterson (goal, assist), Maddie Winter (two assists) and Sheylyn Pokorny (goal) also factored into the scoring. Pokorny registered her first varsity goal in the 70th minute. She was the leading scorer for the junior varsity team the past two seasons.
The JV team also won decisively, 5-0. The Indians head to Enochs on Thursday for a non-league match.

Ripon Christian 4, Denair 0
DENAIR — Janine Prins netted two goals early in the second half, as Ripon Christian (3-0, 6-4-1) continued its roll to start Southern Athletic League play.
Olivia Van Vliet had a part in the Knights’ two goals in the first half. She helped opening scoring in the 24th minute with a through ball to Rachel Oosterman, then scored one of her own with a volley shot one minute later.
Goalie Nicole Chapman came up with two saves in the shutout. The Knights host Le Grand on Thursday.
