Knights capture 3rd place

RIVERBANK – Ripon Christian took third place in the Riverbank Tournament with a balanced attack on Saturday with an 80-65 win over Langston Hughes-Stockton.

The Knights (2-1) placed four players in double figures with Jadon Vander Molen scoring 19 points followed by Braden Van Groningen with 18, Andrew Vander Weide with 16, Austin Ries with 13 and Jacob Vander Hook with 10.

The Titans’ Landis Spivey led all scorers with 34 points.

Ripon 43, Ceres 33

STOCKTON – The Bulldogs (2-2) went on a run at the end of the game to bring home the consolation championship.

“We are a young team,” Indians coach Rod Wright said. “We are trying to find our identity.”  

Vincent Olmo led Ripon (1-2) with eight points followed by Kyle Sisk and Nico Ilardi with six points each. Ceres’ Inder Sandhu earned high-point honors with 14.

Sierra 57, Benicia 46

Lindsey Walljasper scored 14 points to help the Timberwolves even their season record at 2-2.  

Jada Franklin and freshman Jordan Hayter each had 10 points with Franklin knocking down a clutch 3-pointer in the second period and Hayter drilled a pair of 3-pointers. Natalie Dias, Ray Prieto and Alexia Mcbride each added seven points for Sierra.  

“We got better this tournament,” Timberwolves coach Larissa Founts Bergerson said. “We learned a lot about our style of play, and what we want to develop into, quickly. 

“I am proud of these girls for being willing to work hard and their drive to get better.”
