Finding the back of the net wasn’t an issue for the Manteca girls varsity soccer team during their first non-league win Friday afternoon.

Brittany Costa’s hat trick help lead the Buffaloes to a 9-0 victory over the visiting Delhi Hawks.

Breanne Hatfield broke the ice in the game’s 30th minute with the first goal of the contest, while Riley Mankin tickled the twine in the 38th minute and Costa netted one in the 39th minute off a cross from freshman Sialei Manuleleua.

Costa accounted for the next two goals – with assists by Norwegian exchange student Maureen Kvistad and freshman Sammy Morris – while Morris planted a shot in the 52nd minute, Mankin found an open shot again in the 57th minute, and Jessica Reeder closed out the offensive onslaught in the 64th minute.

Manteca outshot Delhi 28-3, with all three shots ending up as saves on the tally sheet for goalkeeper Jami Guibor – who also got credit for the shutout.

“It took us a while today. We were playing pretty well but we had to settle things down a little bit and pass the ball round,” Manteca head coach Justin Coenenberg said. “Once we started to possess the ball better we were able to get some good shots off.”

Manteca will next take on Ripon on Tuesday at home.
