Mia Lagunas exemplifies the role of a student athlete at Sierra High.

During her special signing day to attend William Jessup University on a Cheer Scholarship, the school’s Athletic Director / Vice Principal Ezequiel Ruiz reeled off a list of her accomplishments during the past four years.

Lagunas, who was joined Wednesday by friends and family – included were her parents, Jose and Bertha – did cheer all four years including the last three at the varsity level.

She did track and field during that same span, competing in 4-by-400 meter relays along with 200 and 400 for the Timberwolves.

Lagunas was captain of her cheer and track squads in her senior year and, academically, maintained a 3.88 GPA.

“That’s impressive for a student athlete,” said Ruiz during signing event held at the SHS cafeteria.

Lagunas, in addition, made National Honor Society for the past three years.

“We’re all proud of what she did on and off the field,” Ruiz added.

Mia Lagunas will be doing cheer for William Jessup located in Rocklin – an NAIA school in the Golden State Athletic Conference.

She plans to major in Nursing.
