East Union High’s track and field team found strength in numbers in blowout wins against undermanned Weston Ranch Thursday.
The Lancer boys prevailed 106-29 behind the all-around effort of Hector Solario, and the girls had several key contributors to their 100-9 drubbing of the visiting Cougars in their Valley Oak League-opening dual meet.
Solario was the big point-getter of the day for EU, scoring first-place finishes in the 110-meter hurdles (17.62 seconds), 300 hurdles (44.50) and 200-meter dash (24.31). He was also the runner-up in the pole vault (10 feet, 6 inches).
Other event winners are Daniel Martz in the 1,600 (4 minutes, 54 seconds) and 800 (2:14.79), Eduardo Ordaz in the 3,200 (11:05) and Tim Mora in the discus (115-3).
Juniors Carmen Haro and Alejandra Alvarez were the standouts for EU’s girls.
Haro claimed the 100 hurdles (20.81) and 300 hurdles (59.08) and joined Da’Mesha Henderson on the winning 4x100 relay team. Henderson also won the 100 (12.87).
Freshman Megan Jordan also came up big in the sprints, winning the 400 (1:02), taking second in the 200 (28.18) and leading the victorious mile relay team.
Distance specialist Alvarez coasted in her wins in the half-mile, mile- and two-mile races. Gianna Hedin led EU’s field-event participants with wins in the discus throw (71-2) and shot put (26-8).

Sarah Jackson and Chusila Lee each won three individual events, and their overall performances were key in the EU girls’ close win.
Jackson won the 100 hurdles (21.37), 300 hurdles (57.93) and 400 (1:09). Lee was the victor in the 800, 1,600 (7:19) and long jump (11-00.5). Josephine Valdez chipped in first-place points in the discus (75-2.5).
Tyler Hardesty paced the boys to victory with wins in the 110 hurdles (18.66), 300 hurdles (46.65) and 4x400 relay. Anthony Melena won the shot put (34-7) and was the runner-up in the discus (78-7.5).
