Pinpoint serving and tough line play helped visiting Mountain House kick off the Valley Oak League campaign Thursday with a 25-12, 27-25, 25-11 sweep of East Union at Dalben Center.

With the scored tied 8-8 in the first set, Teagan Ransohoff toed the service line for Mountain House (1-0 VOL, 3-0 overall) and was just nails, reeling off seven aces in a nine-point service run.

“That has been our issue all year,” Lancers coach Tevani Liotard said. “When we commit an error, it seems like we commit three. She didn’t serve anything special, just to a place. She got like seven on us.

“We started off pretty equal, and then we had our burps and it went downhill from there.”

Ransohoff is the setter as well, and she had front-line support from Jaziz Gomez.

“She had a good run,” Mustangs coach Erin Moore said of Ransohoff. “And Jaziz (Gomez) is one of our most consistent middle hitters. She is really aggressive at the net and has the most kills on the team.

“She is a strong, strong player.”

East Union (0-1, 2-5) bounced back and battled in the second to lead 25-24, but a net serve followed by a pair of Meera Patel blocks for Mountain House gave the Mustangs the 26-24 win. The Lancers never mounted an attack in the third set.

Jocelyn Pena and Lilyan Frye had four digs apiece for East Union, Isabella Martinez-Lopez posted four blocks and Lily Grove dished out three assists with a pair of aces.

The Lancers travel to Modesto on Tuesday to face Central Catholic at 6:15 p.m.
