Lancers have little trouble with Oakdale

The East Union Lancers attacked one of the more challenging courses in the Valley Oak League but did not flinch, handling Oakdale 232-310 Tuesday at Oakdale Golf and Country Club.

Frances Telles paced the Lancers with a 1-over-par round of 38, while senior Jillian Goulart turned in a 42 to help guide East Union.

“I was extremely happy with Frances and Jillian’s play today,” East Union head coach Dennis Wells said. “It was probably the best ball striking I have seen out of Frances all year. Jillian turned in a 42 with four three-putts, so her round would have been better.

“The other girls still have some work to do to get themselves where we need them.”

Jenny Ketner closed out Oakdale Golf and Country Club’s front nine with a 49, while teammates Salina Tiscareno and Angelique Cardoza closed with a 50 and 53, respectively. Oakdale was led by Jaylene Ponce’s round of 48.

East Union (4-0) will try and remain unblemished when they meet up with Lathrop High at Manteca Golf Course Thursday at 3 p.m.

Sonora 257, Lathrop 322
The Spartans’ struggles continued Tuesday, as they were beaten by the Sonora Wildcats 257-322 at French Camp Golf Course.

Lathrop did another strong outing from No. 1 Chelsea Brown, whose round of 50 was just six strokes of medalist Justine Abbot of Sonora’s 44.

“We are very young and this is a new experience for us,” Lathrop head coach Nicole Burrows said. “Chelsea is playing excellent golf as a sophomore, and is really leading this Spartan golf team.

“We are developing and working on improving every day.”

The Spartans will be back on the course Thursday, when they meet up with East Union at Manteca Golf Course.

Valley Foothill League
Ripon 228, Bret Harte 232
The Indians made a strong statement with a six-stroke win over the Bret Harte Bullfrogs Tuesday.

Ripon was led by Haylee Fannin, who again earned medalist-honors with round of 49. Samantha Conway followed Fannin with a 54 and Destiny Franco shot a 59.

Ripon (3-1) was rounded out by a pair of 66s from Megan Talbot and Sienna Starck. The Indians will try and continue their winning ways when they host the Riverbank Bruins at 3 p.m. at Jack Tone Golf Course Thursday.
