The Manteca Buffalos were led by a solid nine-hole round from Mickey Dias whose round of 53 led the Buffalos over the Sierra Timberwolves 323-333 Wednesday at Manteca Golf Course.
Dias was followed by Brooke Mejorado (63), Airenne Curry (65), Emily Owlsey (69 and Kaylie Grimes’ round of 73. The Buffalos improved to 2-2, while Sierra fell to 1-3.
The Timberwolves 10-stroke loss was a vast improvement on the groups’ last round at the course. Sierra improved several strokes, signifying an upcoming turnaround for the youth-laden Timberwolves.
“Our last match at Manteca we shot a 373,” Sierra head coach Jack Thomson said. “So today we knocked 40-strokes off the scores. Needless to say, I am really happy with our team.
“Allison (Smith) has done a great job for us; she really is the only one on the team with any experience.”
Smith turned in medalist-honors with a 13-over-par 50, followed by teammates Tiana Nelson and Holly Cook who both shot 67. Elia Vasquez and Melanie Kiesel shot 71 and 78, respectively.
The Cougars were led by middle-blocker Zelon Lane who recorded four blocks and a pair of aces, while teammate Desiree Fonoti handed out three aces and three kills. Senior Andrea Vega led the club with eight digs.
Weston Ranch will kickoff Valley Oak League action today, when they host Kimball High at 6:30 p.m.
Sarah Konecny had a solid effort with nine service points and five kills, while Chelsea Bereta added seven service points and four kills.
Sierra (4-1) will have to rebound from the loss immediately, as the squad opens VOL play with a home-match against defending league champion Sonora at 5 p.m.
