Hailie Kim is coming back to the Johnson Ranch Racquet Club in Roseville this morning.
On Thursday, the Manteca freshman cruised to two wins to reach the semifinal round of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II Individual Tournament. She’s two more wins away from joining older sister Katie as a section singles champion.
The top-seeded Kim, who improved to 26-0 on the season, opened with 6-0, 6-1 sweep of Livingston’s Saniya Claire. She then knocked off El Capitan’s Gabriela Garcia Del Castillo by the same scores.
Also participating in the tournament were fellow Buffaloes Shreya Raman and Rae Limbago, who qualified as a doubles team. They downed Chloe Lowe and Mya Pimental from Tokay 6-1, 6-2 in the first round but ran into the second-seeded tandem in the quarterfinals.
Rodriguez’s Emily Wong and Ariana Kim eliminated them 6-1, 6-1, as they seek a third consecutive SJS crown. Wong and Kim defeated Raman and her then-partner Emma Ngo.
Valley Oak League champions Vivian Zhang and Sehej Sondh of Mountain House are the No. 1 seed. Semifinal action begins at 10 a.m. today.
The season is not yet over for Raman and Limbago, as Manteca remains alive in the SJS Division III team playoffs. The Buffaloes head to No. 1-seeded Rio Americano next Monday.
