RIPON — The Ripon Christian girls soccer team’s unbeaten streak in the Southern Athletic League has finally come to an end.

And visiting Orestimba did it convincingly Thursday, getting three goals from freshman Daniela Lopez in the 4-1 win. Ripon Christian (7-1-1, 10-6-1 overall) went 58 straight games without a league loss, with the last blemish coming on March 28, 2014 at Mariposa when girls soccer in the Sac-Joaquin Section took place in the spring.

Orestimba (6-0-2, 9-3-3) evened the season series with the Knights after tying them 1-1 in Newman and losing 1-0 in the second round of RC’s annual tournament in early December.

“Overall, we played even with them while likely having more possession than they did throughout the game,” Ripon Christian coach Kevin Tameling said. “They just converted their opportunities and we did not.”

The Warriors scored on two counterattacks in the first half and took a 3-0 lead into halftime. The gap widened to four before the Knights answered on Janine Prins’ penalty kick in the opening minutes of the second half.

It does not get any easier for RC, which travels to third-place Mariposa and fourth-place Waterford next week.

LATHROP — The Spartans (1-7-1, 4-8-2 overall) picked up their first Valley Oak League win of the season behind Kassandra Ceja’s four-goal barrage.

Sierra Rose opened scoring following a deflection off an initial shot attempt from Ceja, who was then assisted on her first goal by a long goalie punt from Noelle Smith. Lathrop broke it open in the second half with its last three goals, two coming off counterattacks finished by Ceja.

“The team is getting comfortable with our new system and moving the ball well,” Lathrop coach Jose Montes said. “They’re still learning and having fun, and that’s what it’s all about.”

Smith finished with four saves, while Aliyah Guerrero ended up with seven for Weston Ranch (0-8-1, 3-15-2).

“They had us playing on our heels in the first half,” Cougars coach Gabe Padilla said. “We came out real flat and did our best to (weather) the storm. They were the better team tonight.”
