Sierras Lewis shines in VOL Championships

Lancer pole vault sensation Jerrica Hauck continued her dominance in the VOL capturing another championship Saturday in the league finale.

Shakira Lewis will be heading into the Sac-Joaquin Sections on the heels of an impressive Valley Oak League Championship that involved winning a pair of league titles and a second place.

Lewis cruised to VOL championships in the 100 and 200-meters, winning the 100 in 12.06 and taking the 200 in 25.86. Lewis was also advanced in the long jump with a second-place jump one-half inch off first place.

The top-3 finalists in each advance earn a berth into the SJS Division IV meet, with an opportunity to advance to the Masters Meet.

The East Union girls’ 4x100 meter relay team won the VOL crown with a time of 51.38. The Lancers also earned the victory in the boys 4x100, edging out Manteca (2nd) and Sierra (3rd) with a time of 44.56.

Manteca High’s Jordan Lyons took the 400 meters with a time of 51.38. Lyons also made good on the 200 meter title, beating Emmanuel Elijah by a hundredth of a second. Sierra’s Jake Supinger (2nd) and Lyons’ teammate Rolland Pacheco (3rd) also will advance to sections. The boys 100 meters saw Angelo Zerbini nip Sierra’s Elijah by two-hundreths of a second for the VOL title. Lancer Tevyn Braiden advanced with a third place finish.

Sierra’s Sophia Vukanovich raced to the league’s 800 meter title. Marcus Avilla of Manteca won the 300-hurdles title with a time of 43.18. EU’s Jordan Tomlinson also advanced with a third place finish.

The Sierra boys 4x400 relay squad beat Manteca for the league championship, cruising to victory by nearly two seconds. East Union standout Jerrica Hauck continued her impressive Lancer career with her third consecutive VOL pole vaulting title with a vault of 11-feet.

Sierra’s Onix Pareded won the boys title, just clipping Manteca’s Rolland Pacheco for the title. Both Sierra’s Bret Wilson and Valerie Nestor captured the shot put titles in their respective fields. Wilson also captured a third in the discus finals.

Sierra’s Ricky Morris and Manteca’s Isaiah Cruz took second and third, respectively, in the mile, while Morris also earned second in the 3,200 meters.

Lancer Meghan Jordan was second in the 400, advancing to the SJS meet, along with Sierra’s Nicholas Valdes who took second in the 110-hurdles. East Unin’s Haley Cook had a pair of third place finishes and a second, advancing in the long jump, 100 and 200 meters.

The SJS Division IV meet trials are scheduled for May 15 at Modesto Junior College at 2 p.m. The meet’s finals are scheduled for Thursday also at MJC.
