The Ripon Christian girls basketball team had one focus when they came into the Lady Huskies Tournament title game Saturday, and the squad was able to accomplish that task with a 51-47 win over host Hughson for the preseason tournament title.

The Knights used a dominant effort from junior Mikaela Alger who finished in double-figures in each of Ripon Christian’s three wins on her way to the tournament Most Valuable Player honors. Teammates Hayleigh Colyn and Katie Thomas were honored on the all-Tournament team as well.

“This was a total team effort in every way,” Ripon Christian head coach Ed Mulder said. “We needed everyone to win this championship, and everybody contributed.”

The Knights will try and use the tournament title as momentum as they continue along the preseason schedule by hosting Escalon Thursday.

Lodi Tournament
Sierra 41, Buhach Colony 34
The Timberwolves were able to put a tough loss Friday behind them, and close out the Lodi High Tournament with a 41-34 victory over Buhach Colony Saturday.

Sierra trailed 23-18 at halftime, but held Buhach to just one third quarter point on their way to the come-from-behind victory.

“After halftime Alysia Atkins really took over the scoring,” Sierra head coach Steven Unterholzner said. “She scored 11 of her 16 points in the third quarter to spark our 17-1 run.
“It was great to see an entire team effort to overcome some of the early setbacks we experienced early on.”
Atkins’ 16 points were a game-high, while teammate Stephanie Vanni (8 points) came in behind her.

Sierra will be back on the court Friday when they travel to Stockton to take on Stagg High.
