ESCALON — Reina Sausedo got Ripon rolling early in its Trans-Valley League opener at Escalon, finishing with 25 points in the 54-42 victory on Thursday.

The Indians (1-0, 10-3 overall) led 19-6 after the first quarter, with Sausedo accounting for 11 of their points. Tianna Sidtikun added 10 points for Ripon, hitting a pair of 3s in the process.

“We started off strong in the first quarter playing really good defense, and Reina did her thing jump starting our offense,” Ripon coach Rick Inderbitzin said. “Tianna Sidtikun did a nice job knocking down some shots when needed. It was a team win with everyone playing, but it seemed like we ran out of gas a little at certain parts of the game, making silly passes. But when we had to we got after it, keeping a nice lead throughout the game.”

Escalon (0-1, 8-8) was led by Shelby McCune’s 19 points but struggled as a team from the foul line, making 10 of 23 free throws. The Cougars were routed by Riverbank 62-29 in their TVL opener Wednesday.

“It was nice to start league with a win,” Inderbitzin said. “Escalon played hard and never quit.”

Ripon Christian 67, Riverbank 59

RIPON — Playing from behind for most of the game, the Knights (1-1 TVL, 9-7 overall) broke through in the fourth quarter when they outscored Riverbank, 24-14.

Sophomore guard Morgan Van Elderen led the fourth-quarter charge despite playing with four fouls. She scored 15 of her 18 points in the final period, adding nine total assists.

Renae Heida powered her way to 18 points and 11 rebounds, and Kelly Engel contributed 13 points and four assists. Aliza Teixeira fired a game-high 23 points for the Bruins (1-1, 6-9).

Kimball 43, Manteca 40

TRACY — Manteca (1-1 Valley Oak League, 8-6 overall) never led but tightened up its zone defense to make it a game after trailing 30-17 at halftime.

Raziya Potter, who led all scorers with 14 points, made one of two free throws with 15 seconds left to extend the Kimball lead (2-0, 9-3) to four, and the Jaguars put it away thanks to Kayia Ransom’s put-back layup off the miss.

Manteca’s Kacy Bolding then made a 3-pointer before the final buzzer to cap the final score. Sarah Inderbitzin paced the Buffaloes with 13 points and eight rebounds.

Central Catholic 52,

Sierra 48

MODESTO — Freshman Jordan Hayter scored nine of her game-high 23 points in the fourth quarter, but the comeback attempt fell short for Sierra (0-2 VOL, 7-8 overall).

Lindsey Walljasper chimed in with 13 points and Natalie Dias provided a good defensive effort to go with her 17 points, but the Timberwolves could not overcome 18 missed free throws.

Central Catholic evened its league record to 1-1 and improved to 9-5 overall.

MODESTO — The Timberwolves were able to squeak out the road win behind a 13-point effort from Elise Peterson. Madi Boyd contributed eight.

STOCKTON — The Cougars held Oakdale scoreless in the second quarter to take a 16-8 halftime lead and didn’t look back.

Jasmine Basco collected 10 points and 10 assists. Kyara Thompson chipped in eight points and six rebounds.
