Ripon High’s girls basketball team posted its third straight victory decided by at least 20 points, and fourth overall, with a 62-21 pummeling of first-year varsity Kimball at home Monday.

The Indians (4-0) were already well ahead 25-4 after the first quarter, and reserves got to play considerably there was no apparent drop-off in defensive intensity. Kimball (0-9) was held to single digits in every quarter, scoring no more than seven while posting just three in the third.

“We came out and put a lot of pressure on them in the beginning and just blew it open from there,” Ripon coach George Contente said. “We were able to rotate people in and almost everybody scored.”

Senior center Rachel Rodriguez was the lone Indian in double figures with 10 points, but scoring was evenly spread around. Kendra Contente, Megan Morias, Ruth Waters and Kristy McCann contributed eight points apiece, and 11 of Ripon’s 12 available players scored at least two.

Ripon will be better tested Saturday at East Union, home of the four-time defending Valley Oak League champion.

“We are striving to always get better with every game — we can’t go backwards,” Ripon coach George Contente said.  “We’re not where we want to be yet, but we’re doing OK right now.”

The Indians have lost three straight to their non-league rival, and Saturday’s contest will be the debut of the Hoops for the Cure Classic — an event that both programs aim to use both as a cancer-awareness program and fundraiser to help local cancer patients.

“We are striving to always get better with every game, goals beginning of year can’t go backwards. We have to reiterate that, keep getting better. Now where we want to be yet, but we’re doing OK right now.”

“It was a good bounce-back from our last game (a 51-26 loss) against Ripon,” Lathrop coach Ed Fang said. “The girls responded well.”
