Ripon High’s Ilardi ties for 3rd place at Diablo Grande

PATTERSON – Nico Ilardi of Ripon High tied Preston Castleton of Golden Valley for third place individually in Monday’s Hilmar Yellowjacket Invitational Tournament at Diablo Grande Golf and Country Club.

Both fired 77s in the 18-hole course. Castleton, however, was the official third-place finisher based on the tie-breaker.

Camdan Indelicato of Ripon Christian along with Calvin Reed (Oakdale), and Justin Kiester (Tracy) finished with identical 81s, tying for sixth place in the 119-player field.

The top score was turned in by Justin Pasley of Buhach Colony. He edged out Christopher Giardina of El Capitan by a stroke, 75-74, for medalist honor.

Tracy was the tops in the 24-team event with a combined score of 338. El Capitan (343) was second and Buhach Colony (346) was third.

Ripon Christian (359) – Danton Indelicato shot an 85 and Darin Doek fired an 88 – was fourth followed by Oakdale (359) and Hughson (360).

Ripon (364) took seventh place. Besides Ilardi, Cabe McCusker and Kenny Johnson finished with scores of 89 and 95, respectively.


Boys volleyball

Hilmar 3, Weston Ranch 2

STOCKTON – Weston Ranch High suffered a home loss to Hilmar in five games on Monday.

The Cougars (3-2) went 23-25, 25-19, 25-23, 23-25, 6-15 in the non-league best-of-five match.

Senior setter Milo Bayot had 33 assists in the loss. Outside hitter Josh Ico delivered on seven kills while middle blocker Armando Mendoza contributed with five kills.

Weston Ranch will travel to Ripon today for a 5 p.m. non-league match and will travel to Chavez on Thursday.


Ripon Christian 3, 

East Union 1

RIPON – The Knights (4-2) took care of the visiting Lancers in four games in the non-league affair, 25-18, 25-16, 22-25, 25-18.

“We’re still working things out,” said RC coach Kevin Tameling, who had to wait for the end of the basketball post season to get a bulk of his team back. “Right now, we’re working a lot on our defense.”

Cade Alger led the Knights with 13 kills and two aces and Braden Van Groningen added seven kills, seven aces and three blocks.

Lukas Van Groningen delivered on four kills, three blocks and nine assists.

Ripon Christian will host Sierra Thursday at 5 p.m.

Tennis

East Union 9, 

Weston Ranch 0

East Union hammered Weston Ranch 9-0 Monday in Valley Oak League tennis action.

 The No. 1 match was the closest with the Cougars’ Brendan Lee challenging the Lancers’ Matthew Trinidad 6-1, 7-5.

 After that it was all convincingly East Union with Steven Chan (6-4, 6-2), Kelton DeSouza (6-1, 6-0), Tarunjit Singh (6-1, 6-1), Daniel Ngo (6-1, 6-2) and Dustin Ngo sweeping their way through the singles.

 The doubles were no different with Isaac Diaz-Harmeet Sandhu and Matthew Mendoza-Aaron Mosley both winning 6-1, 6-1 and Tristan Santos-Jesse Batres winning by forfeit.
