RIPON — Ripon High’s swim team celebrated Senior Day and another Valley Oak League championship for the girls on Thursday.

The undefeated Lady Indians routed visiting Manteca 114-54 for a second straight league title and third in the last four years. Manteca’s boys prevailed 89-64 despite winning two events.

For the Ripon girls, Hannah Sweet (200 IM, 100 breast, 200 medley relay, 200 free relay) and Elizabeth Wenner (100 fly, 100 back, 200 medley relay, 400 free relay) were four-event winners. Mallory Brubaker (200 free, 500 free, 400 free relay) and Chloe Winter (100 free, 200 medley relay, 400 free relay) added three wins each, and Maddie Hawes won two (50 free, 200 free relay). Amber Scheid was also part of the winning 200 medley 200 freestyle relays.

Alyssa Trejo paced Manteca with second-place finishes in the 100 butterfly and 500 free.

Austin Welch was the lone individual winner for the Manteca boys, as he took the 100-yard freestyle to go with a runner-up finish in the 50 free. Manteca also won the 200 free relay. Josh Craighead contributed second-place points in the 100 fly and 100 backstroke.

Lacking depth, Ripon was able to remain competitive thanks to their standout swimmers. Daniel Esenwein cruised to Sac-Joaquin Section-qualifying times in winning the 500 free (5:01.56) and 100 back (55.5). Ty Wells (100 breast, 100 fly) and Kole Gonzales (200 free, 50 free) also won two races each.

Manteca hosts East Union next Tuesday for its final dual meet of the season. The VOL Championships is on Saturday, April 30 at Kimball High of Tracy.
