Ripon High’s Sam Conway was the medalist in Wednesday’s Valley Foothill League North Division Midseason Tournament with a 14-over-par round of 86 at Greenhorn Creek Golf Resort in Angels Camp.
Conway was four strokes better than runner-up Presli Pilati of Escalon, the VFL—North’s year-end tournament champion and conference MVP in 2009. Earlier this season, Pilati outshot Conway at Escalon Golf Course during a league dual.
As a team, Ripon (5-1 in duals) placed third with a 452. Escalon (428) and Bret Harte (441) were 1 and 2. Contributing for the Indians were Haylee Fannin (109), Sienna Starck (120) and Megan Talbot (137).
Ripon Christian (sixth place, 528) was led by Jenny Wickham’s 117. Joie Darretta (138), Raeanne DeRousse (127) and Kayla Sikkema (146) rounded out the Knights’ score.
The VFL finale is set for Oct. 18 at Manteca Park Golf Course.
