Sierra’s baseball team ended the regular season with an upset win over Valley Oak League champion Central Catholic.
The Timberwolves followed that up with another stunner.
Led by senior pitcher Wyatt Bauer’s 1-hitter, 11th-seeded Sierra knocked off No. 6 Placer 8-0 in the first round of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV playoffs Wednesday in Auburn.
Bauer issued three walks but struck out 11 in his complete-game masterpiece.
Other seniors came up big for the surging Timberwolves (9-17), who have won their last three after dropping six in a row. Rudy Barney belted a two-run double, Ricardo Anaya went 2-for-3 with a run and two steals, and Collins Schluer went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.
Junior Ryan Reyes added a double of his own, going 2-for-3 with a run and two RBIs. Riley Kane contributed two hits, a run and an RBI.
Jack Addison got the lone hit for Placer (16-13).
Sierra next plays No. 3 Roseville (17-11) on the road in the quarterfinals. Roseville took two out of three competitive contests in Foothill Valley League action.

SJS Division III Tournament
Manteca’s Ethan Freitas narrowly missed out on a qualifying berth to the SJS Masters Championship on Tuesday at Tracy Golf & Country Club. He finished 7-over 79 but lost a sudden-death playoff against Central Catholic’s Matt Stewart.
The top two teams and six individuals advance to Masters, which is next Monday, May 12 at The Reserve at Spanos Park. Twelve Bridges claimed the team title with a 418 score, edged VOL champion Oakdale by one stroke. Jacob Garibaldo if Tokay was low medalist with a 75, winning a card-off against three others.
East Union’s Michael Pires capped his solid season with an 85. Fellow Lancer Cody Camarena carded a 91. Jordan Llamas-Mojarro of Sierra netted an 86. Manteca’s Cooper Chamberlain scored a 94.
