ROUNDUP: Buffs drop 1st-place boys volleyball battle to Mountain House

 Manteca’s boys volleyball team dropped its first-place battle with reigning Valley Oak League champion Mountain House on Monday, 25-23, 15-25, 26-24, 21-25, 10-15.

Jesus Gomez led the host Buffaloes (2-1, 9-3 overall) with 14 kills and 16 digs. Rob Hevener also had 14 kills to go with five blocks. Donovan Morse contributed four blocks, and freshman setter Chandler Harris handed out 32 assists.

Mountain House improves to 4-0 in league, 12-5 overall.

Manteca welcomes Central Catholic on Wednesday.


BASEBALL

Manteca 11, Patterson 0 (5)

Brixton Menchaca-Ortiz knocked in four runs for the Buffaloes (4-3 VOL, 11-4 overall), going 1 for 2 with a run and a double.

Manteca broke it open with nine runs in the bottom of the third and fourth innings. Brody Carabello (two runs) and Matthew Suarez (triple, two RBIs) were both 2 for 3. Nate Slikker plated three runs and drove in one, belting one hit and drawing a pair of walks. Devon Richardson added an RBI double and two runs.

Suarez was also the winning pitcher, allowing three hits and three walks over four innings. Carter Hetrick pitched a perfect fifth inning, striking out one.

Trevor Green got two of the three hits for Patterson (0-7, 4-9).


BOYS TENNIS

Central Valley 7, Lathrop 2

The visiting Spartans (4-1) dropped lost the Western Athletic Conference clash of unbeatens in Ceres.

They won the top two singles matches, getting a 6-1, 6-0 sweep from No. 1 Vincent Elizondo and a 6-4, 6-4 triumph from Agamjot Singh.

Central Valley (6-0) won in third sets at No. 5 singles and No. 3 doubles.


SOFTBALL

Lathrop 16, Weston Ranch 6 (6)

Host Lathrop (6-2-1) won its third straight game, all by mercy rule. The Spartans opened with a nine-run outburst in the first inning and led 12-0 after three.

Luz De Luna powered the attack with her productive 3-for-4 effort that includes two runs and six RBIs.

Freshmen Avaihna Calderon (double, three runs, two RBIs and Shyla Miranda (two runs, RBI) were also 3 for 4. Aubree Martinez finished 2 for 3, a triple, two runs and an RBI. Ja’Leiyah Ray scored four runs.

Winning pitcher Maci De Costa pitched five scoreless innings, giving up one hit and no walks while striking out six.


JV boys volleyball

Manteca 2, Mountain House 0

Azan D’Anna and Kyle Acker accumulated seven and six kills, respectively, to propel the Buffaloes to the 25-15, 25-22 victory.
