The Manteca girls soccer team had five different goal scorers Monday, opening its non-league schedule with a 5-2 win over visiting Escalon.
Sophomore Leslie Gutierrez led the Buffaloes with a goal and an assist. Makayla Spencer assisted two, including a corner-kick cross on Mia Martinez’s headed finish on the final goal.
Gabby Leon, Kailee Jackson and Paisley Coenenberg added one goal apiece. Manteca had a 3-1 edge at halftime.
The Buffs travel to Summerville today and will play their third game in four days on Thursday against Sonora at home.
BOYS SOCCER
Manteca 6, Escalon 1
The Buffaloes improved to 2-0 on the young season after a one-sided effort on the road.
They rolled a five-goal halftime lead, scoring three in the first seven minutes. Adriel Vega converted on the first attempt of the game just 15 minutes in and finished with a brace.
Julian Oregel and Anthony Espinosa each contributed a goal and an assist. Kevin Mundo added a goal, Eli Navarro assisted two and Andres Gomez pitched in one assist.
Goalkeeper Alberto Gutierrez collected four saves.
Lathrop 4, St. Mary’s 0
After a scoreless first half, the host Spartans (2-0-1) finally broke through thanks to Andres Hurtado Garcia’s penalty kick. He finished with two goals and an assist. Diego Alvarez scored once, and Adrian Montanez contributed an assist.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Ripon 50, Pitman 47
In Turlock, Ripon overcame a 29-point outburst from senior guard Dailynn Greener.
The Indians jumped out to a 14-6 first-quarter lead and held on from there.
Lauren Peters paced them with 19 points, and Scarlett Ponce scored 12.
