ROUNDUP: Buffs tally 3rd straight baseball win behind Richardson’s 5 RBIs

 Devon Richardson drove in five runs and was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle on Wednesday, as Manteca’s baseball team won its third straight game 10-1 at Patterson.

The senior first baseman finished 3 for 4 with a double and a home run. Brody Carabello also went 3 for 4, plating three runs and knocking in one.

The Buffaloes (5-3, 12-4 overall) will look to complete the three-game Valley Oak League sweep on Friday. They totaled 15 hits in Game 2 and drew six walks.

Nate Slikker and Brennen Vega each contributed an RBI double and two runs. Body Hiatt and Brixton Menchaca-Ortiz (RBI) added two hits apiece.

Winning pitcher Jeremy Cross logged six innings in the combined four-hitter, striking out seven. Slikker struck out three of the four batters he faced in the seventh.

Caden Lozano went 2 for 3 with a double and plated the lone run for Patterson (0-8, 4-10).


River Islands 11, Venture Academy 0 (5)

The Riptide (1-0, 7-5 overall) opened Central California Athletic Alliance play with a combined no-hitter in Stockton.

Freshman Cash Orndoff faced one batter of the minimum over four innings, striking out nine. Santiago Lopez faced four batters in the fifth and had two strikeouts.

Matthew Echivarre powered the attack, going 4 for 5 with two steals, a run and three RBIs. Aalad Bysani (two runs, RBI), Logan Orndoff (RBI) and Cash Orndoff (run) all went 2 for 4. Israel Fuentes and Chase Salomon each hit a double, as did Devyn Kotecha, who plated three runs and drove in another.

Venture Academy (0-1, 2-7) visits River Islands on Friday.


Ripon 6, Sonora 3 (9)

The Indians (2-1, 8-5) rallied for three runs in the top of the ninth to avoid the Trans Valley League upset.

Winless Sonora (0-5, 0-13) forced extra innings with a three-run flurry of its own in the bottom of the seventh.

Ripon was limited to five hits but got two runs and two RBIs from Hunter Weber. Brayden McDowell went 2 for 5 with a double, a run and an RBI. Jack Peters scored twice.

Frank Carter-Castro was the winning pitcher after he fired seven strikeouts over seven innings. Weber got the start, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out six in four innings.


Escalon 8, Ripon Christian 3

Escalon (5-0, 12-2 overall) raced away with four runs in the top of the fourth to win the battle for first place in the TVL.

Senior transfer Jackson Howell played his first game for Ripon Christian (4-1, 9-2), going 2 for 4. Ethan Vander Plaats went 2 for 3 with an RBI, Noah DeBruyn scored a run and drove in one and Talen Tameling scored twice.

The Cougars doled out 10 hits and were led by Dylan Ball (3 for 4, two runs, RBI), Brody Abbott (2 for 5, homer, two runs, three RBIs) and Aiden Ramiriz (2 for 3, two RBIs). Winning pitcher Zach Wells rung up eight strikeouts and scattered six hits over six innings.


BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Manteca 3, Central Catholic 0

The Buffaloes (3-1 VOL, 10-3 overall) coasted to the 25-11, 25-13, 25-15 win at home.

Rob Hevener led the, with seven kills, while Donovan Morse and Dennen Loureiro added five and four, respectively. Raul Carranza picked up five digs.

Manteca heads to East Union tonight.


Lathrop 3, Grace Davis 0

Gabriel Fa’ali’i blasted 18 kills to highlight Lathrop’s 25-15, 25-14, 25-14 Western Athletic Conference sweep.

The senior outside hitter also had five aces, four digs and a block.

Jayden White contributed six kills and five digs for the Spartans (3-2, 11-4 overall). Marc Llorin added three kills, while Andres Ricaldi fired five service aces.

Setter Jorge Reyes racked up 20 assists, four aces, three kills and two digs. Mario Luna pitched in nine assists, and Tristen Rower had four digs and three assists.


SOFTBALL

Ceres 2, Lathrop 0

In Ceres, the Spartans (2-1, 6-3-1 overall) suffered their first WAC loss of the season.

Lizzie Figueroa pitched a complete game for Ceres (3-0, 5-3-1), striking out six against four walks in the five-hit shutout.

Lathrop’s Maci De Costa countered with seven strong innings of her own, giving up seven hits with five strikeouts. The Bulldogs scored in the first and third innings. Both teams left six runners on base.



JV boys volleyball

Lathrop 2, Grace Davis 0

Lathrop swept 25-10, 25-16 behind a nine-kill attack from Lorenzo Palomares.

Cristian Loyola contributed five kills. Valentino Tito and Jaime Leon split setting duties, finishing with nine and eight assists, respectively. Hanz Castanares collected five digs.
