ROUNDUP: Downs’ 25 points powers Ripon to win over Stone Ridge

Dawson Downs caught fire early, and Ripon dominated the third quarter on the way to a 69-66 win over Stone Ridge Christian in the first round of the Holt Academy Tournament on Wednesday.

The Indians (9-5) trailed by four at halftime but won the third quarter, 23-9. Downs scored 17 of his 25 points in the first half, adding nine rebounds and two blocks.

Jack Schoolland pitched in 15 points and nine boards. Logan Lefebvre had 12 points, four assist and three steals. Landon Gillespie added eight points.

Kassius Salazar poured in 25 points for Stone Ridge Christian (8-5). Daijon O’Neil and Brock Richards scored 15 apiece.

Ripon plays Delhi tonight at 5.

 

Manteca 68, Immanuel 45

Paced by Elijah Nelson’s 25 points, the Buffaloes (10-3) blew open a 43-19 halftime lead before coasting to the win in the Modesto Christian Holiday Hoop Classic.

Evani Gaeta contributed 11 points, while Peyton Neiman and Santiago Sanders each had 10. Micah Crawford collected five points and nine boards.

Mikah Tolpezinkas scored 21 points for the Eagles (7-7) from Reedley but was held to just one in the first half.

Manteca plays tourney host Modesto Christian tonight at 7.

 

Ripon Christian 63, Johansen 38

The Knights (8-4) used a 12-0 run in the third quarter to break it open and notch their fifth straight victory. Senior center Jace Beidleman scored their first nine points in the period, finishing with 15 points, eight rebounds and three blocks.

Amos Cady made three 3s and ended with 14 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals. E.J. Bruno produced 10 points and four boards. Mason Tameling added eight points.

Caidan Bounmany and Wilbert Gaxiola spearheaded Johansen (5-7) with 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Ripon Christian plays Sonora at 6:30 tonight in the semifinals.

Manteca 44, Ripon 37

The Buffaloes opener their Block M Tournament behind Jeremiah Orona’s 12 points. Devon Richardson added eight.

Manteca plays Bear Creek at 7:30 tonight.

 

Frosh boys basketball

Sierra 70, Weston Ranch 47
The Timberwolves (8-3) created separation by scoring the first 24 points of the second half in the Block M Tournament opener. They play Lincoln tonight at 7:30.

Sierra made 10 3-pointers, getting five from Ryan Alves. His 17 points led four T’wolves in double figures. Karanbir Bhandal added 14 points and six steals, Isaac Kempf had 13 points and 12 rebounds, Isaiah Revives registered 11 points and four steals and Arsh Gosal chipped in eight rebounds and four assists.

 

Manteca 38, Ripon 24

Shahab Safi scored 11 points, and Muhammad Awan chimed in with eight in the Block M Tournament.

The Buffs take on Tracy at 6 tonight.
