Electrical issues forced a delay in action and change in venues for East Union’s Sac-Joaquin Section Division III girls basketball playoff opener on Tuesday.
The game was moved across town to Manteca High after the first quarter, and the second-seeded Lancers rallied past No. 15 Yuba City, 58-29.
After leading by nine at halftime, East Union (24-5) busted it open with a 21-3 third quarter.
Ava Barrera produced a 16-point, 13-rebound, 12-assist triple-double. She and Shebra Rezaye sparked the third-quarter surge with seven points each.
Zyondupree Beasley added 11 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
Lali Cortez collected eight points for Yuba City (13-16).
East Union welcomes No. 7 Nevada Union (20-9) on Thursday.
Lathrop 62, Oakdale 42
Breanna Wiseman anchored the No. 3 Spartans (29-0), accumulating 20 points, eight rebounds, six blocks, seven steals and four assists as frontcourt mate Shakara Porter battled through early foul trouble.
Porter still managed to get hers, accounting for 14 of Lathrop’s 22 points in the third quarter as the Spartans opened up a 52-30 lead. The fourth-year senior finished with 18 points and three steals.
Jaleiyah Ray racked up 13 points, four rebounds and two steals.
Lathrop will reunite with Western Athletic Conference rival on Thursday, as No. 11 Ceres (17-11) visits after upsetting No. 6 Sierra, 36-35.
Division V
Ripon Christian 43, Rio Vista 32
Bella Arganbright and Rhian Huevel scored nine points apiece in the balanced attack for No. 7 Ripon Christian (10-5).
Annika Jung chipped in with eight points.
The Knights travel to Yuba City on Thursday to meet second-seeded Faith Christian (25-1).
BOYS SOCCER
East Union 5, Placer 1
The second-seeded Lancers (23-3-2) broke away with three second-half goals to reach the Division IV semifinals.
Yandel Gutierrez continued his campaign for the state scoring title, adding two goals and an assist to his season total. Manny Curiel added a goal and an assist.
Antonio Dutra and Efren Ruiz scored one goal apiece. Ben Diaz, Brandon Escamilla and David Tafolla pitched in one assist each.
Player (12-6-2) got its lone tally in the first half.
East Union will face No. 3 Venture Academy (23-1-1) in the semifinals. It’s the Lancers who are responsible for Venture’s lone defeat, a 2-1 outcome during the Buff Collegiate Showcase.
