Returning state-meet qualifiers Valeria Galvan and Liliana Rios won division titles in the 48th annual Halter Memorial Wrestling Tournament this past Saturday at Sonora High.
Galvan of Sierra pinned Manteca’s Zaniyah McClendon twice in a best-of-three final at 190 pounds.
Rios took care of Johansen’s Ferrinahou Nuku with two pins for the 215-pound crown. She’s one of four Manteca wrestlers to earn first-place hardware. Breanna Bragg dominated her three matches en route to winning the 115-pound bracket. Isabella Castillo took two of three at 120 pounds against fellow Buffalo Alisha James. Annabella Lopez pinned her way to the 170-pound championship, downing third-place Majesty Mack of East Union along the way.
Other top-three placers from the Manteca Unified schools: Manteca’s Aubrie Strickland (third, 100), Sierra’s Daena Lee Vanderwillt (second, 110), Manteca’s Susan Joseph (second, 125), Sierra’s Halo Neufuille (second, 130), Sierra’s Joselle Go (third, 140-145) and Sierra’s Mehak Kandola (second, 155).
East Union’s Tyler Bogle was the top make performer from the area. Seeded 11th in the 157-pound bracket, he dominated three opponents on the way to the final before falling to Johansen’s Isaiah Jauregui by major division. Dennen Loureiro of Manteca knocked off the No. 1 seed in the second round before placing third.
Manteca 215-pounder Michael Smith also finished as runner-up. Sierra’s Jacob Soares took third in the same division.
Third-place finishers from the area: Manteca’s Caleb Kopp (113), Sierra’s Luis Gonzalez (126), Manteca’s Brandon Nakham (132), East Union’s Roman Salcido (138), Manteca’s Rudra Singh (150) and Manteca’s Gael Juarez (190).

Lathrop had five top-three placers in Livermore.
Leading the charge was standout Damian Ceja Ramirez, who squeaked out an 8-5 decision over Luis Ponce Francis of Washington (Fremont) in the first-place match at 157 pounds.
Roman Espinoza is the 113-pound runner-up. Jacob Billeci (106), Noah Corona (126) and Avner Faaliga (285) each placed third in their divisions.
GIRLS SOCCER
Sierra 9, Central Catholic 1
Leslie Reyes and the Timberwolves (4-2, 16-4 overall) had their way with visiting Central Catholic (2-4, 5-7) in the Valley Oak League contest.
The senior winger scored five goals, while Haley Gama dished out four assists. Zoe Sutton tallied two goals, and Maitland Kohoutek added three assists. Kaylee Rodriguez (goal, assist), Natalie Ruvalcaba (goal), and Diana Reyes (assist) also contributed to the attack.
Starting goalie Ava Bonilla came up with four saves, and Kileyann O’Neill had one.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Escalon 59, Ripon 29
Arianna Velasco netted 29 points, which include four 3s in the second half, for the visiting Cougars (4-0, 15-5 overall). The Trans Valley League leaders jumped out to a 25-7 lead in the first quarter.
Ripon (2-2, 9-11) was paced by Itxel Reynoso’s 11 points.
