ROUNDUP: Hughes leads Ripon to fourth TVL golf tourney win

 Ripon’s boys golf team is 4 for 4 in the Trans-Valley League, winning the fourth tournament Thursday at La Contenta Golf Club in Valley Springs.

The Indians were led by sophomore Richie Hughes’ 4-over 76 and netted a team score of 408. Hughson was the runner-up with a 482. Livingston (512) and Escalon (531) took third and fourth, respectively.

Vincent Uecker and Jeremie Little also produced solid scores for Ripon with a 77 and 78. Marcus Jose Atienza added an 81, and Ty Herrin rounded out scoring with a 96.

The fifth TVL tournament is next Thursday, April 18 at Turlock Country Club.


BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Manteca 3, Oakdale 0

The Buffaloes (6-1, 15-3 overall) remain at the top of the Valley Oak League after downing Oakdale on the road, 25-10, 25-9, 25-16.

Setter Mark Bondoc orchestrated the attack and finished with 27 assists. Aidan Patton clobbered 11 kills, while Jesus Gomez and Julio Mateo contributed seven and six, respectively.

Manteca takes on both of its cross-town rivals next week — East Union at home Monday, at Sierra on Wednesday — with the league championship on the line.


Lathrop 3, Johansen 0

Lathrop (12-0, 21-5 overall) continued its dominance in the Western Athletic Conference with the 25-10, 25-17, 25-13 sweep.

Gabriel Fa’ali’i led the attack with 12 kills. Marco Palomares pitched in with nine kills, seven assists and two aces. Peter Respicio had eight kills.

Alexander Vere turned in 26 assists, and Charles Reyes picked up 20 digs.


BOYS TENNIS

Sierra 9, Central Catholic 0

VOL co-leading Sierra (7-1, 11-1 overall) quickly vanquished the Raiders in Modesto.

Unbeaten Brady Alves knocked off Michael Dunn 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 1 singles match. Ashton Hillard (6-1, 6-1), David Martin (6-2, 6-3), Hasnain Ali (6-0, 6-4), Oliver Naven (6-1, 6-3) and Santiago Franco (6-2, 6-1) also took care of their opponents in straight sets.

Winning at No. 1 doubles were Sid Godendran and Sparsh Beedi (6-1, 6-1). Ryan Alves and Harshith Kumar shut out their opponents at No. 2 doubles. Central Catholic forfeited the third doubles match.


BASEBALL

Sierra 17, Kimball 7 (5)

The Timberwolves (4-4 VOL, 11-7 overall) won the make-up game at home, jumping out to a 10-0 lead after two innings. They scored six in the bottom of the fifth to end it early.

Angel Valdez drove in four runs, finishing 2 for 3 with a double. Collins Schluer (two runs, RBI) also went 2 for 3. Wyatt Bauer belted a double and had three RBIs. Travis Boyd went 2 for 4 with two runs and two RBIs. Druw Navarro scored three runs and drove in two others.


SOFTBALL

Denair 14, Ripon Christian 12

The Knights (2-4 Southern League, 2-9 overall) trailed 12-3 after four innings but rallied to tie it with nine runs in the top of the fifth.

Denair (2-4, 4-7) responded with the final two runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Ally Brown led Ripon Christian’s attack, going 3 for 4 with two doubles, three runs and three RBIs. Julia Van Groningen went 2 for 5 with a double, three runs and an RBI. Kate Van Groningen tagged a triple, and Kate Vander Veen drove in two runs.


JV boys volleyball

Lathrop 2, Johansen 1

The Spartans pulled out the 25-14, 26-28, 15-10 win in Modesto.

Elias Medel (three aces) and Diego Alvarez clubbed seven kills apiece, and Gurmukh Singh contributed four. Mario Luna handed out 18 assists, and Josh Ramirez netted nine digs.


JV softball

Los Banos 15, Lathrop 6

Juliana Marquez powered the Spartans offense with a double, two RBIs and two runs, going 3 for 3.

Alina Ledezma contributed one hit and two runs, Taylor Rios had a hit and two RBIs and Kalea Rogers added one hit.
