ROUNDUP: Knights roll to Windemuth Tournament final

Ripon Christian completed an undefeated three-day run in pool play on Wednesday during the 55th Windemuth Tournament at John Thurman Field.

The Knights routed Denair 15-5 in five innings to finish at the top of their groups and will face former Southern League rival Le Grand for the championship today starting at 4:15.

Winners of seven straight, Ripon Christian (16-2) scored at least 12 runs in each of its first three games of the tournament.

Jackson Howell and Stadtler Postma highlighted the latest hit parade with back-to-back inside-the-park home runs. Both finished 2 for 2, and each also had slugged a triple. Howell drew a pair of walks, scored twice and drove in two runs. Postma plated three runs, had three RBIs and stole two bases.

Jimmie Bakker and Talen Tameling each contributed a double and a run. Trenton Cloward finished with two steals and two RBIs.

Denair (4-12) led 2-0 after the top of the first inning, but the Knights answered with 12 straight runs with six coming in the third.

Le Grand (14-3) also went undefeated in group play and is riding a 12-game winning streak.

East Union 11, Mountain House 1 (5)

Efren Diaz pitched a mercy-shortened three-hitter at Agostini Field and went 2 for 3 at the plate with a run and an RBI to help the Lancers (10-4, 17-6 overall) even the Valley Oak League series.

The rubber game is Friday at Mountain House (3-8, 11-10).

Diaz gave up an unearned run in the third inning and totaled six strikeouts.

He got all the offensive support he needed in the second inning when East Union mounted an eight-run rally for a 10-0 lead.

Jackson Fay went 2 for 4 with two steals and two runs. Peyton Heath contributed two runs and two RBIs, finishing 2 for 3. Ryan Allen, Brayden Camara (double) and Julian Ledesma (double) also knocked in two runs apiece.

Sierra 12, Downey 7

Visiting Downey (6-12) took a 5-0 lead in the first inning, but the Timberwolves (8-13) responded with 12 unanswered runs.

Noah Valdivia led the attack, going 3 for 3 with two runs and an RBI. Sierra amassed 15 hits.

Ryan Reyes (run, two RBIs) and John Thomson (two runs, RBI) both went 2 for 2, while Riley Kane (two runs, RBI) and Josh Graves (double, two runs) each went 2 for 4. Chad Simas Jr. contributed a two-run double.

Winning pitcher Cole Martin threw 5 2/3 innings, striking out five. He gave up seven runs (five earned) on five hits and five walks. Jayden Pimentel struck out two and scattered two hits over the final 1 1/3 innings.

Atwater 8, Ripon 3

Host Atwater (13-4-1) clinched its spot in the Fred Oneto/Atwater-Winton Lions Easter Tournament championship.

After giving up two runs in the top of the first, the Falcons jumped ahead for good with three in the bottom half and added four more for insurance in the fifth. They were led by Logan Sanchez, who went 3 for 3 with three RBIs. Winning pitcher Brandon Vargas fired 11 strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings.

Fabian Nuno clubbed a pair of doubles for Ripon (10-9), going 2 for 4 with two RBIs. Brayden McDowell drove in the other run, and Jack Peters went 2 for 2.

Ripon wraps up the tournament today against (7-12) at 1 p.m.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Manteca 3, Patterson 0

The Buffaloes (7-1, 18-4 overall) swept the VOL road match, 25-12, 25-17, 25-13.

Logan Romriell led the attack with 13 kills and was complemented by middles Chase Cheng (seven kills, three blocks) and Rob Hevener (six kills, three blocks).

Chandler Harris produced 31 assists and 10 digs.

Lathrop 3, Central Valley 0

Gabriel Fa’ali’i tallied 20 kills to go with six digs, as the Spartans (6-3, 18-5 overall) rolled to the Western Athletic Conference win at home.

Lorenzo Palomares added five kills and three digs. Marc Llorin contributed three kills and three solo blocks. Jayden White served three aces.

Setter Jorge Reyes netted 19 assists and three kills. Christopher Ygay picked up five digs.

JV boys volleyball

Manteca 2, Patterson 1

Manteca escaped with the 25-14, 17-25, 15-10 victory.

Quintin DeCosta Aldape and Endrei Tuddao pounded five kills each. Hergunn Kang collected 21 assists.

Lathrop 2, Central Valley 0

The Spartans swept 25-20, 25-14, behind the attacking pair of Cristian Loyola (11 kills, two aces) and Steven Pughsley (10 kills).

Jaime Leon (11 assists) and Leonardo Quezada (nine assists) split setting duties. Hanz Castanares chipped in six digs and two aces.
