Lathrop is in the semifinal round for the first time in boys soccer after the top-seeded Spartans routed No. 8 Los Banos 4-1 in a postponed quarterfinal on Wednesday.
The game was supposed to take place Tuesday, but Bennie Gatto Field was deemed unplayable because of the recent rainstorms.
The delay did not seem to affect the first-time Western Athletic Conference champion, however. Lathrop (20-5-2), which also eclipsed the 20-minute mark for the first time, scored all of its goals in the first half, allowing many of the reserves to get ample playing time while the starters got to rest early ahead of the quick turnaround for today’s semifinal against Liberty Ranch.
“We were focused,” Lathrop coach Alfredo Reynaga said. “We’ve been here (in the quarterfinals) the last three years and it didn’t go our way, so we were dialed in for this one and wanted to make it to the semifinals. The boys came out with hunger in the first half.”
Andres Hurtado-Garcia accounted for two goals and assisted another. Alan Hernandez and Omar Rodriguez added one goal apiece. Left wing back Jonathan Martinez dished out two assists, while Rodriguez had one.
Julian Ceja (four saves) and Eric Lucatero (save) split time in goal.
“We finished the game with four or five freshmen,” Reynaga said. “We wanted to see our depth and for them to get quality time. We were able to maintain control and the lead in the second half.”
Los Banos (11-9-3) scored in lone goal in the second half.
Fourth-seeded Liberty Ranch (17-5-1) knocked out the Spartans in the second-round last year in a 2-1 overtime thriller en route to claiming the Division IV crown. The Hawks blanked Woodland 2-0 on Tuesday in a rematch of the 2025 final.

A 29-14 second-quarter burst was the difference for fourth-seeded Colfax (22-7).
The game was played at Del Oro High in Loomis.
“Really proud of our guys,” River Islands coach Justin Graham said. “They battled, they played their hearts out and did everything we asked of them. Proud to be their coach and the effort they put forth.”
Darius Radoc Factoran paced the Riptide (17-12) with 21 points. Senior guard Charles Mapanao knocked down three 3s for his nine points.
Colfax hosts No. 12 Escalon, which stunned fifth-seeded West Campus, 68-65.
