ROUNDUP: Lathrop overwhelms Ceres in 2nd half of WAC girls hoops win

After surrendering 25 points in the second quarter, Lathrop’s girls basketball team gave up 12 for the entire second half of a 76-43 Western Athletic Conference win Monday at Ceres.

The Spartans (10-0 WAC, 24-0 overall) shot out to a 26-6 lead before Ceres (6-4, 13-10) came charging back.

“We subbed to see if we could keep it going with a different group, and we missed a few rotations and let them get going,” Lathrop coach Dwayne Davis said. “I probably should have called a timeout and changed what we were doing earlier, but we rolled with it to halftime.”

Jaleiyah Ray sparked Lathrop and finished with 23 points, six rebounds and two steals. Breanna Wiseman added 17 points, 13 rebounds and four assists. Shakara Porter had 11 points, nine rebounds and five steals. The Spartans totaled 16 assists.

Lathrop travels to Johansen on Wednesday.


BOYS SOCCER

Manteca 6, Central Catholic 0

In Modesto, senior forward Jesus Gomez amassed five goals for the Buffaloes (4-6 Valley Oak League, 10-10-4 overall). Adrian Anaya scored the other.

Julian Oregel, Eliel Rosa and Josue Venegas contributed with assists. Manteca welcomes Mountain House for its senior night on Thursday.


GIRLS SOCCER

Manteca 2, Mountain House 2

The Buffaloes (5-1-3 VOL, 16-4-3 overall) were able to salvage the tie at Guss Schmiedt Field, thanks to a late goal from freshman Jaylah Benton.

Mountain House (1-8-1, 4-11-1) scored the first two goals of the game, and Kailee Jackson notched the first for Manteca, which had a 15-5 advantage in shot attempts.


JV girls basketball

Lathrop 61, Ceres 13

Sariah Hilton accumulated 15 points, nine rebounds, seven steals and three assists in the road win for Lathrop.

Sarah Garcia pitched in with 12 points and five steals. Zoha Ali had 10 points, eight boards and two steals.
