ROUNDUP: Lathrop secures 3rd WAC boys volleyball title

 The Lathrop boys volleyball team secured at least a piece of the Western Athletic Conference championship — its third overall — Tuesday with its 25-11, 25-10, 30-28 sweep of Los Banos on senior night.

The Spartans (13-0 WAC, 22-5 overall) will look to gain the outright title Thursday at Mountain House, the defending champion that can force a title share.

Setter Alexander Vere orchestrated the attack, finishing with 26 assists. Libero Charles Reyes led the defense with 18 digs to go with two service aces. They’re among the nine seniors honored.

Gabriel Fa’ali’i fired 14 kills and four aces while chipping in four assists. Peter Respicio tallied eight kills, Marco Palomares had seven and Pravjit Singh added six.


Ripon Christian 3, Waterford 0

The Knights (7-0, 15-6 overall) rolled to the 25-17, 25-12, 25-9 Southern Athletic League victory at home.

Preston Zuidervaart led the way with 17 assists, four kills and five aces. Joel Hendricks also handed out 17 assists.

Mason Tameling blasted 19 kills, and Isaiah Vander Woude had seven kills and three blocks.


SOFTBALL

Ceres 7, Lathrop 2

The offense did not get untracked for the host Spartans (4-4 WAC, 9-6 overall) until the sixth inning, when they scored both of their runs.

Aubree Martinez had a triple, and Luz De Luna had Lathrop’s other hit. Ariana Fuentes pitched five innings, scattering four hits to go with six strikeouts. Maci DeCosta allowed three hits and struck out three in two relief innings.

Alizae Cole pitched the two-hitter for Ceres (7-1, 8-8).


JV boys volleyball

Lathrop 2, Los Banos 0

Lathrop took care of business, 25-21, 25-11.

Michael Miravite Adams anchored the front row with six kills and two solo blocks. Diego Alvarez added five kills, and Elias Medel netted four.

Mario Luna provided 19 assists to the attack. Tristen Rower racked up four aces and three digs. Josh Ramirez led the defense with five digs.


Ripon Christian 9, Delhi 1

Kara Koolhaus pitched a two-hitter, striking out seven for host Ripon Christian (3-4 SAL, 3-10 overall).

Ally Brown (run, RBI, two steals) and Reagan Van Der Hoek (two runs, five steals) both went 2 for 3 to lead the offense. Alanna Blanco drove in a pair of runs, and Natalie Beenes plated three.


JV softball

Ceres 27, Lathrop 0

Kalea Rogers had a hit for the Spartans.

Arielle Cooper contributed a put-out and an assist. Alina Ledezma and Taylor Rios each had a put-out.
