ROUNDUP: Led by 1st-place heavyweight, Ripon takes 2nd in D5 tourney

Ripon heavyweight Joaquin Rodriguez took first place Saturday in the Sac-Joaquin Division V Boys Wrestling Championships and led the Indians to a second-place team finish.

Ace Dougherty (158), Chris Alfaro (120) and Gilbert Luiz (126) all finished fourth and will advance to the two-day Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Championships beginning Friday at Adventist Health Arena in Stockton.


Division III

Sierra’s Jacob Soares (217) finished third at River City High School, and teammate Lui Gonzalez (128) was fifth, and as a result of finishing in the top-eight places will advance to the SJS Masters Championships.

Also advancing from Manteca-area schools are East Union’s Roman Salcido (146, seventh) and

Jack Heidrich (159, eighth) with Manteca’s Michael Smith (217) and Lorenzo Sereno (287) finishing fifth.


Division IV

Lathrop’s Roman Espinoza (113) finished second, and Damian Ramirez (157) was third at Pacheco High and will advance to the SJS Masters Championships.


Girls Southern Regional

Lathrop’s Lily Corona (100) finished sixth at Central Valley High School and will advance to the SJS Masters Championships.
