ROUNDUP: Manteca edges out Central Catholic for boys golf victory

Manteca’s boys golf team overcame low medalist William Brooks and visiting Central Catholic on Wednesday, winning the Valley Oak League dual match 272-279 at Manteca Park Golf Course. 

The Raiders had the top two scorers in Brooks with a 6-over 42 and Bradley Machado, who added a 47. 

Connor DePrater led Manteca with a 48, and Karson Condit netted a 49. Zenon Garay contributed with a 52, Andrew Robison carded a personal best 60 and Reese George scored a 60. 


Ripon 216, Kimball 244

Trent Vink fired a 40 to highlight the Indians’ solid round at Spring Creek Golf & Country club. 

Gage Anderson and Evan McKeon placed second and third with a 42 and 43, respectively. Kenneth Johnson added a 45, and Jacob Baird rounded out scoring with a 46.


GIRLS SOCCER

Sierra 0, Central Catholic 0

In Modesto, Central Catholic (4-1-1 VOL, 5-2-2 overall) produced a surprising result, exacting some measure of revenge from its 10-2 defeat to these same Timberwolves (5-0-2, 7-0-2).

Sierra fired off 19 shots, while keeper Annika Beall kept maintained the shutout on her end with four saves.


BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Manteca 3, East Union 2

The Buffaloes pulled out the 25-21, 16-25, 25-20, 16-25, 15-12 triumph at Winter Gym.

Camden Steckler led them with 17 kills, five blocks and three aces. Alejandro Tornero rapped 10 kills, while Zachary Huffstutler added seven. Bryan Alvarez contributed 16 assists and five kills. Angel Rodriguez also had five kills.


JV SOFTBALL

Sierra 10, Ripon Christian 9

The host Timberwolves scratched across the tying and go-ahead runs in the bottom of the fifth for the win, completing their comeback from a 9-1 deficit.

Kailee Alejandre (double, RBI, run) and Mikaela Vander Molen (two runs, two RBIs) each went 3 for 4 to lead Ripon Christian. Maclaira Camper contributed a triple.
