ROUNDUP: Manteca, Lathrop eliminated in 1st round of volleyball playoffs

Manteca’s girls volleyball team was ousted in the first round of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II playoffs on Tuesday, as it was swept on the road by No. 6-seeded Tracy, 10-25, 20-25, 20-25.

The 11th-seeded Buffaloes (17-13), who have campaigned in Division III in recent years, were minus their top outside hitter Michaela Singh, who broke her hand in the Valley Oak League finale against Sierra last week.

Courtney Washburn led the way with five kills and five blocks. Izzy Sanchez contributed four blocks. Jill Santos and Nicole Ayala collected 15 and 14 digs, respectively. Jessica Almeida turned in 12 assists, seven digs and four aces.

Tracy (20-10) travel to No. 3 Rio Americano on Thursday.

 

Roseville 3, Lathrop 0

The No. 11 Spartans (17-8) played sixth-seeded Roseville (17-8) tough for two sets before ultimately falling, 22-25, 24-27, 11-25.

Roseville next plays No. 3 Christian Brothers on road Thursday.

Alaba Olaleye compiled nine kills, two solo blocks and 10 digs. Janessa Ward added four kills, two blocks and five digs.

Camila De La Garza Garcia added 10 assists. Celeste Narvaez compiled 15 digs and three aces.

 

GOLF

Sac-Joaquin Section Division III

East Union’s Ashley Trinidad spearheaded a contingent of local golfers at Micke Grove Golf Links in Lodi. She carded an 89 but came up well short of the cutline for the SJS Masters Championships. The highest score for Masters qualifiers was 73.

Fellow Lancers joining Trinidad were Jessica Ingalls (110) and Amanda Pale (132). Manteca’s Emily Camera tallied a 101, while Johanna Riemann of Sierra turned in a 132.

Rodriguez and Vista del Lago are the two Masters team qualifiers. ‘

 

BOYS WATER POLO

Ripon 13, Kimball 2

The Indians locked up a share of the Valley Oak League championship with the blowout of Kimball’s coed squad.

Ryan Bell (two saves) and McKeane Beier (five saves) split time in goal in place of injured starter Benny Rogers. They each also had two goals.

The goal scoring was evenly spread, with Brody Biedermann contributing two to go with his two blocks and four steals. Matthew Lee chipped in two of his own, while Chetan Harvey, Ben Svoboda, Nathan Selna, Owen Curtis and Teo West (five assists) scored one apiece.

 

Mountain House 15, Lathrop 8

Christian Buerster amassed six goals for Lathrop. Alan De La Garza Garcia and Gustavo Landa Betancourt added one apiece. Landa Betancourt also registered 12 saves.

The Spartans cap their season with a program-high seven wins.

 

GIRLS WATER POLO

Mountain House 20, Lathrop 11

Hannah Stewart amasses six goals in the high-scoring Western Athletic Conference finale.

Sophia Moreno netted two goals. Elizabeth Rodriguez, Nishitha Kadiyala and Kalani Soriano scored one each.
