Riley Ward pitched a mercy-shortened one-hitter on Monday, and Maleiah Garza hit a grand slam to highlight Manteca’s 10-0 non-league softball win at Atwater.

“Great to see the bats show up today, and a lot of girls hit the ball hard,” Manteca coach Josh Farris said. “Very proud of how Riley pitched today and the defense we played behind her.”

The junior hurler collected five strikeouts and walked two. She got more than enough offensive support, as the Buffaloes (1-1) plated four runs in the first innings and finished with 13 hits.

Garza provided much of the power, finishing 2-for-3 with a triple and five RBIs to go with the slam. Na’ima Calderon was 3-for-3 and finished a single shy of the cycle. Jocelyn Baptist hit 2-for-2 with a double and two runs. Bella Cooper was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.

The JV team dominated, 18-0.

Manteca hopes it continues today for its home opener against Kimball.
