ROUNDUP: Raiders conquer East Union in VOL baseball tilt

 East Union struggled in all facets Wednesday at Agostini Field in an 11-2 Valley Oak League baseball loss to visiting Central Catholic, which broke it open with nine runs in the third.

The Lancers (0-2 VOL, 5-4 overall) were limited to two hits by Central Catholic’s Cruz Costa, who struck out 10 in a five-inning complete game. Kenji Tine and Cage Woodall came up with East Union’s lone hits. Peyton Heath and Kirk Simoni both plated a run.

Chase Perino led the Raiders’ attack with a home run and four RBIs. He finished 2 for 4 with two runs. Marcus Davenport went 2 for 2 with two runs, two doubles and two RBIs.

Central Catholic (2-0, 5-0 overall) were aided by the Lancers’ four errors, which led to four unearned runs.

The three-game set ends Friday in Modesto.


BOYS GOLF

East Union 221, Patterson 316

Co-medalists Cody Camarena and Michael Pires each shot 5-over 41 at Manteca Park Golf Course, helping East Union improve to 3-1.

Matthew Neves chipped in with a 44, Tiago Chadinha netted a 46 and Chase Kalin carded a 49.

Ryan Scott paced Patterson with a 53.


BOYS TENNIS

Lathrop 7, Grace Davis 2

Agam Singh highlighted Lathrop’s Western Athletic Conference win in Modesto with a 2-6, 6-4, 9-7 victory against Cesar Chaponan in the No. 1 singles match.

The rest were settled in two sets.

Vincent Jiang dominated at No. 2 singles for Lathrop (2-0) with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout. Kyle Espiritu (6-4, 6-2), Matthew Rodrigues (6-2, 6-1) and Nico Campos (6-2, 7-5) also swept.

Doubles wins came from No. 2 Jin Ibarra/Ishaan Bal (6-2, 6-2) and No. 3 Harman Singh/Munmeet Singh (6-1, 6-2).
